Solid Titanium
All visible parts of the camera and its lens are manufactured from solid titanium. A surface finish applied by a specialist company in Switzerland makes the titanium parts even more resilient. The plate protecting the monitor display is manufactured from particularly tough and scratch-resistant sapphire glass. This may be recognized by the tiny diamond symbol engraved into the lower edge of the cover plate.
Excellent design and LED technology for the bright-line frames
The design of the Leica M9 Titanium is the fascinating result of the collaboration with Walter Maria de’Silva, head of the design division at the Volkswagen Group. The outcome is an ergonomic, precise, logical and stringent appearance, without any changes to the intrinsic character of the rangefinder camera.
Distinctively accentuated details centered around the camera’s handling are an integral part of this new appearance. The entirely new illumination of the bright-line frames by means of red LED light allows the omission of the illuminator window, and makes the frontal aspect of the camera appear even more simplified. An additional aspect includes the redesigned and highly polished Leica logo that is now positioned centrally, directly above the lens.
All control elements have been assessed in terms of form and function and have been similarly revised. For instance, not only have the frame selector lever and the thread for a remote release been omitted, but changes have also been made to the design of the central setting dial and the four-way direction buttons adjacent to the camera’s monitor.
Real leather from Audi
Real leather, otherwise exclusively used for the interiors of Audi premium class automobiles, has been utilized for the leathering of the camera and its carrying system. The real leather inlays of the camera body have been embossed with a special diamond pattern to enhance its grip characteristics.
Lens, with focus on design
The Leica Summilux-M 35 mm/f1.4 ASPH has also been made over with a special emphasis placed on a design to match the style of the camera. Further along these lines, the distance-setting ring is now engraved only in meters and there is a redesigned depth of field scale. To ensure and unobstructed composition through the viewfinder, the screw-mounted, round lens hood has four cut-outs around its circumference. All visible metal parts of the lens and lens hood are manufactured from solid titanium with an additional special surface finish applied to enhance their outstanding resistance to wear.
Innovative carrying and holding concept
Particular attention was paid not only to the design of the camera but also to how it is used. Particularly noteworthy in this respect, is the completely new shoulder holster that allows fast access to the camera when the finger loop is attached. The finger loop, provided in two different sizes, offers photographersoptimum handling characteristics and maximum camera control.
As an alternative to the traditional strap lugs of the standard M cameras, this limited edition camera comes with an entirely new camera carrying system reduced to only one single mounting element on the camera body.
Alternatively, the camera may be carried vertically by attaching a shoulder strap to the rapid locking mechanism intergrated into the body of the Leica M9 Titanium.
