The Ranger Quadra AS is a compact portable 400 Ws battery flash system for studio and outdoor use. A perfect battery flash system for anybody who like un-plugged (not connected to the mains) photography. The RQ System offers "Action Freezing" flashduration with fast flash recycling time and also un-plugged (wireless) trigger and remote options.

Not only are Quadra’s small and lightweight, they are also powerful and fast. Quadra’s have a power range of 8.2 to 400ws and support two asymmetric heads. Lightning fast recycle times and Elinchrom’s shortest flash duration helps make for an unbeatable package. Some of the built in features include:

Built-in Skyport Triggering – Using a Skyport Trigger can completely control the Quadra’s including power up and down and turning on/off modeling light using eight frequencies and four workgroups. Like the rest of Elinchrom’s RX’s devices, the Quadra’s can be completely controlled via the Skyport software.
Eye-Cell – When using Quadra’s in optical slave mode with cameras or pocket flashes with a pre-flash, users can program the number of preflashes or have the pack automatically program itself based on a test shot.
Power Steps – Can modify power from the traditional 1/10 step increments to any 1/20, 1/30, … 1/90, 1 stop increments.
Change ready beep sound length – The length of the ready beep can be changed so the photographer knows when the main light is ready as opposed to the fill light.
Programmable On/Off Modeling Light – The modeling light on the Quadra “S” and “A” heads can be programmed to stay on from 15 seconds to 1 minute, or constantly on.
LED Modeling Light – Only 20 watts but burns at 5900 Kelvin (day light ranges from 5000 to 6500), and is nearly perfect as a video light. A single charge will provide 2 hours of modeling light usage.
Very Short Flash Durations – A heads are capable of up to 1/6000 (in B port) while S head capable of up to 1/3200 (in B port).
Quick recycle times - At 100% power Min/Max at fast recycle setting is .5 / 2.2 and at slow recycle is 1 / 4 seconds.

Ranger Quadra and Flash Heads

The Ranger Quadra is designed to work with two brand new heads known as Ranger Q heads. There will be a Quadra “S” for standard flash duration and a Quadra “A” for action featuring shorter flash duration than the S head. These new heads are about the same size as popular tilt-head flashes on the market today but much more powerful. Their small size means the photographer will be able to mount them just about anywhere. In fact, these heads are so small and lightweight they can be mounted using a Manfrotto 175 spring clamp. Imagine being able to mount this 400ws flash on a window sill, lamp, door frame, edge of a desk or even on the back of a chair. These Quadra heads are so small that they don’t fit the normal line of Elinchrom accessories. The heads come with a 5.3” standard reflector and a Quadra 7” grid reflector and 15.75” Square softbox will also be available for it. Only Elinchrom umbrellas with 7mm shafts are compatible with the Quadra heads.

However, Ranger Q heads can be fitted with an optional Ranger Quadra Reflector Adapter for EL Reflectors (EL 26339) which allows any Elinchrom modifier up to 39” in size to be used with a Quadra head. This adapter has a stand mount, so it gets fitted to the back of the odifier; then that assembly goes onto a light stand where the Ranger Q head is attached. Like all other Elinchrom flashes, Ranger Q heads have been optimized for use with Elinchrom modifiers. The Ranger Quadra can also drive Ranger FreeLite S, A, Ranger Ringflash or Elinchrom Digital Pack heads with the purchase of the proper adapter cable. Although the Quadra will drive these devices, it cannot operate their modeling light or cooling fan. Still, this is pretty remarkable for the tiny little pack.
